Surprise

Have you ever been truly surprised? I mean, really taken aback…stopped in your tracks.

I’m not talking about a surprise birthday party or a surprise puppy under the Christmas tree or a surprise visit from an old friend. I’m talking about the unanticipated twists and turns mortality takes that catch us off-guard and make us think “I did NOT see that coming!”. I’m talking about loss of employment, an unexpected illness, a natural disaster, divorce, when dear ones leave the strait and narrow path, betrayal, death of a loved one…well, you get the idea.

I have some of these things going on in my life right now. Uncertainty has become a familiar guest in my mind. And I want to tell you, you who are saying to yourself “I did NOT see that coming!”, please hang on. Don’t lose your faith and trust in the Lord. There is peace available to us right now.

Elder Rasband, in the April 2021 General Conference, shared the following: “The Lord… offers, ‘Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest’ — rest from worry, disappointment, fear, disobedience, concern for loved ones, for lost or broken dreams. Peace amidst confusion or sorrow is a miracle.”

I have experienced this peace. I have been granted this miracle. And it is real!

As we put one foot in front of the other during these difficult times, may we remember that we will be better for the experiences. These challenges will bring us closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ as we turn to them and have faith in them. I trust that Heavenly Father is in charge and sees the bigger picture…the eternal picture. He is giving us the opportunity to sincerely say “Not my will, but Thine, be done.”

Y quiero decirles, ustedes que se dicen a sí mismos "¡NO lo vi venir!", Por favor esperen. No pierdas tu fe y confianza en el Señor. Hay paz disponible para nosotros en este momento.
