Stir Them Up
One of the themes that has risen to the top of my mind and personal study is the idea of having our hearts and minds stirred up. Law school was a particularly strong “stirring” event for me. I remember a story of a new law student who was asked to make a comment in class. The professor was less than impressed with the law student’s comment and he threw a quarter at the student and said, “That’s about what that comment is worth.” I am sure the student’s mind was stirring after this experience.
The prophesied events of our time in the scriptures include many events that will stir up our hearts. Helaman 16:22 teaches:
“...for Satan did stir them up to do iniquity continually; yea, he did go about spreading rumors and contentions upon all the face of the land, that he might harden the hearts of the people against that which was good and against that which should come.”
Unfortunately, we see a lot of the foolish and vain things in our world today. Some are perfectly clear and easy to recognize. Some are not and lead us to shift our focus away from the things of God. Sometimes our way gets in the way of His way. One phrase I hear frequently these days is that we each need to live “our truth”. This can be deceptively alluring and appealing. But, this idea can lead us away from Him if our truth does not align with His truth. The Savior taught that He is the way, the truth and the life.
Fortunately, we have access to promised blessings that come from His way, His truth, and His life. We can hear a prophet teach and calm our souls. We can also see the work of the Lord move forward throughout the entire world including 20 new temples announced in General Conference. We listened to members from every continent express their joy and personal testimonies of the Savior of the world. If you missed these testimonies, I would invite you to listen and hear the messages from Conference. My hope is that we will all seek His way, His truth, and more fully appreciate His life so that we are not stirred up. Being centered on Him and His gospel is the way to eternal joy.

Una frase que escucho con frecuencia en estos días es que todos necesitamos vivir “nuestra verdad”. Esto puede ser engañosamente atractivo y atractivo. Pero esta idea puede alejarnos de Él si nuestra verdad no se alinea con Su verdad. El Salvador enseñó que Él es el camino, la verdad y la vida.
Afortunadamente, tenemos acceso a las bendiciones prometidas que provienen de Su camino, Su verdad y Su vida. Podemos escuchar a un profeta enseñar y calmar nuestras almas.
