FamilySearch and Ancestry (and I'm sure many others) have been preparing for the release of the 1950 US Census Project. Would you like to know more? Would you like to know how you can get involved and help? No special training is necessary. You can find the link on FamilySearch.org to get started.
The initial indexing for this census will be done by "artificial intelligence". That's right! For over two years, they have been training computers how to read and interpret handwriting for the purpose of converting the 1950 census to digital typewritten information. When it is released for our participation, we will be asked to "proof" or verify that what the computer wrote is accurate. The review will go through several levels of proofing before it will be deemed complete.
