Ministering Monday

In 1981, a sister in San Jose was assigned a new convert to her visiting teaching route. This new convert had a daughter who was about a year younger than her own, they were both babies then. Over time, though ministering routes changed and their friendship grew. The friendship of the 2 daughters grew more than anyone could have ever imagined. These girls were inseparable until the convert’s family fell away from the Church, and the other girl moved away, about 13 years after they met.

A couple of years later, Amy, the convert’s daughter, tracked down Faith, the original visiting teacher's daughter. Now in high school, the girls were just as they were when they were small. This friendship blossomed and grew well into adulthood. Faith was always inviting Amy to activities and Church service when she could, and despite living hours away from each other, Amy would occasionally go.

In 2015 Amy was desperate to find a church for her and her young son to attend, and Faith invited them down to stay with her and meet with the missionaries. Amy began traveling down to attend Church with Faith and asked the missionaries questions about the Church regularly. Faith had never given up ministering to her childhood friend. Soon, Amy was active in the Church and her son was baptized by Faith's husband!

Recently Faith tragically lost her husband. Immediately upon hearing the news, Amy drove to be with her. She put her name on the temple prayer roll and rallied with Faith's ward to support and love her.

This story of ministering began 43 years ago, when a visiting teaching assignment turned into a true ministry of love and sisterhood from both directions.
